Eastern Counties Branch was formed in 1970, when I believe the then branch secretary was Ted Wing who I am sure a lot of long standing members will remember. Classes were first held at Pye Corner and then moved to Eastwick, both of which are close to Harlow in Essex. We now hold our training classes close by in the “Rodings” area and are very fortunate in having varied types of land on which to run the dogs, giving scope to train both obedience and retrieving as well as quartering for wild game at appropriate times. The branch covers a large area with people coming from far afield to attend and is supported by a highly experienced team of trainers which includes KC Field Trial Judges. Our members can lay claim to having made up quite a number of Dual and Field Trial Champions over the years as well as gaining many awards at Field Trials.
We aim to assist owners of all HPR breeds to achieve success with their dogs for whatever type of work they intend participating in, starting with puppies and following on through with classes to suit all stages.
Classes are held on the first Sunday in each month throughout the year, with a progress assessment during the late summer. We also hold four Field Trial Tuition days each year, at the beginning of the shooting season. These allow newcomers and their dogs to gain experience under field trial conditions and they are very well supported. We also hold barbecues, social evenings (highly successful) and working tests from time to time.
